What local PDF processing does and does not mean
Understand file processing, local browser storage, network assets and practical privacy limits.
Where processing happens
The document tools read file bytes on your device and process them in browser code, workers or WebAssembly. This avoids uploading document content to a conversion server. You can inspect the Network panel in your browser while processing a non-sensitive sample.
Local storage is still storage
Inputs and results are stored in IndexedDB for recent downloads and tool workflows. They are not deleted when you close or refresh the tab. Delete them using Recent files. A later visit after an hour of inactivity triggers cleanup; the app does not run a deletion timer while it is closed.
Network requests still exist
The website, scripts, fonts and worker files must load. OCR can download language models and runtime assets. Local file processing is not a promise of zero network traffic or complete offline availability. Hosting infrastructure may handle ordinary request metadata.
Choose tools according to your requirements
Local processing does not establish regulatory compliance, guarantee device security, or replace your organization's handling rules. Browser extensions, shared-device access and downloaded copies remain relevant. See Security and Privacy for the implementation's current behavior.
